ISLAMABAD: City managers have earmarked two kanals in Bari Imam area for construction of a Basic Health Unit (BHU).

The CDA board in its meeting held on Friday approved allocation of the land for the District Health Department.

CDA officials said Special Assistant to Prime Minister on CDA Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan played a lead role in convincing the CDA for earmarking land for the BHU.

Speaking to Dawn, Mr Awan said the Bari Imam area with a population of over 50,000 had no healthcare facility.

He said allotment of land for BHU was a positive development and he would ensure that during his tenure a state-of-the-art BHU is constructed in the area.

People living in Bari Imam area often face closure of roads because of Diplomatic Enclave, Prime Minister Office, Presidency and other important buildings falling in their way.

“So during health emergencies, people face difficulty while reaching government hospitals such as Polyclinic and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims). We want to provide healthcare facilities at their doorsteps,” he said.

He said that Bari Imam and Bhara Kahu are thickly populated areas which needed healthcare facilities.
