KARACHI: The formidable Askari Alphas outplayed Bahria Club 76-50 in the final to lift the 5th Essa Lab Basketball title here at the Arambagh-Abdul Nasir court on Tuesday.

For the winners, the most outstanding player was Anas Usman (28 pts) who was brilliant on the court and scored five pointers during the final. He was well assisted by Saifullah Nosh­erwani (22 pts) and Shahmeer Zaheer (21 pts).

Director Sports Essa Lab Maryam Farhan Essa was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the prizes among the teams.

She said Essa Lab will hold two basketball tournaments next year. “The first tournament will be girls basketball tournament in January and the second will be boys tournament which will be held in November,” said Maryam. She also thanked DC South Irshad Ali Sodhar for renovating the historic court.

Dr Farhan Essa praised KBBA for holding a fine event and expressed hope that sports and healthy activities will contribute a lot towards building a healthy society.

Aun Akram of Bahria Club was named Player of the Tournament while Anas Usman was Man of the Match. Special performance awards were given to Humaira Siddiqui, Zaeema Khatoon, Uzma Shahid, Saleem Kham­isani and wrestler Sher Khan.
