KARACHI: Turkish Consul General Tolga Ucak on Wednesday called on Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed and expressed his country’s interest in modernising the transport system in the city.

The Turkish CG congratulated the administrator on assuming his office and said that Turkey gave huge importance to Pakistan’s biggest city, Karachi, and that they were willing to support the local administration for uplifting infrastructure and transport system.

The administrator expressed gratitude to Mr Ucak for visiting the KMC office and for his offer of cooperation with the local administration.

He said that progress would be witnessed soon on different projects, including the tram service in the city.

The administrator said that for the very first time in Pakistan’s history, the federal government was providing 50 fire engines to the KMC fire brigade.

He expressed the hope that these fire engines would cater to the need of the city.

He said that city wardens would also be trained and given technical assistance so that they could also be used in rescue work for extinguishing fire. He said that Turkey and Pakistan had good and friendly relations, adding that these relations would be expanded.

Mr Ahmed said that he had served in the federation as well as in the province on different positions, but serving Karachi was an honour for him. He also presented traditional Sindhi ajrak and a cap to the Turkish envoy.
