Wapda retain karate title

LAHORE, Oct 4: Wapda scored 67 points to retain the National Inter-department karate championship title at the Wapda Sports Complex on Tuesday. In all, Wapda earned eight gold and nine silver medals, after competitions were held in 11 different age categories in two days.

On the first day, Wapda won two gold medals one each in the individual kata and team kumite. Nine more finals were held on Tuesday in which Wapda had major share of six gold medals.

Police claimed two gold and eight bronze medals with 18 points to become runners-up.

Railways came third notching up one gold, two silver and three bronze medals to earn 14 points.

Wapda earned gold medals through Nasir Khan (60kg), Abdul Raziq (70kg), Shams-uz-Zaman (80kg), Ghulam Ali (individual kata), Hidayatullah (55kg), Shaukat Ali (65kg), Jahanzaib Khan (75kg) and the team kata.

Results:

50kgs: Shahnawaz, Sharafat Ali, Abdullah (Police). 55kgs: Hidayatullah , Zahoor Ahmed, Abdul Rehman.

60kg: Nasir Khan, Akbar Ali, Amjad.

65kg: Shaukat Ali, Muhammad Ramzan , Muhammad Shahzad.

70kg: Abdul Raziq, Fazal Hussain; Asghar Shah.

75kg: Jahanzaib Khan, Majid Butt , Ghazanfar Ali. 80kg:Shams-uz-Zaman, Ainucin , Aqeel Ahmed . Above 80kg: Irfan Afzal, Agha Muhammad, Asim Raza. Team kata: Wapda, Railways, Police.
