SAHIWAL, Oct 3: Chichawatni Additional District and Sessions Judge Safdar Saleem has granted protective bails to 80 supporters of the opposition candidate for district nazim slot.

As many as 25 UC nazims and 55 councillors, along with their supporters, have been granted the bail by the court, which barred the police from arresting them till Oct 6. The police was directed to produce the case record on Oct 7.

Union council nazim Rana Gulzar Ahmed and others, in their writ petition, had apprehended their arrest for opposing the ruling party candidate Naveed Aslam Lodhi.

RECOVERED: A bailiff of the court of additional district and sessions judge, Chichawatni, recovered two supporters of the opposition candidate, Rai Hassan Nawaz, from the custody of city police. The SHO concerned has been asked to appear in the court on Oct 14.

Reports said the police had kept Sheikh Abdul Ghani and Sheikh Muhammad Hanif in illegal confinement.

PRESS CONFERENCE: Any rigging bid by the government-backed candidate for the district nazim slot or the provincial agriculture minister will be strongly resisted on Oct 6, the polling day.

This was stated by the opposition district nazim candidate Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan and tehsil nazim hopeful Malak Muhammad Yar Dhakkoo at a press conference here on Monday.

Arrests of the supporters of the opposition candidates were bringing a bad name for the government, they said, and appealed to the chief election commissioner of Pakistan to order their immediate release.

They hailed the ECP decision to ban the provincial and federal ministers at polling stations on Oct 6.
