THIS is with reference to the letter ‘The real issue’ (Oct 19) written in response to the article ‘A military is only for war (Oct 10). The writer has mentioned the case of PIA which prospered when managed by people with armed forces background. In my opinion the success or failure in managing an organisation is not the exclusive hallmark of the armed forces or civilians. Air Marshal Nur Khan succeeded only because he inherited a dedicated, capable team that ensured merit down the line. After Nur Khan, we have seen many failures from people across the board.

It is interesting that everyone wants to set things right at PIA, while hardly anybody is as keen about the Railways, or in initiating a competent, efficient, respectable public transport system.
