RAWALPINDI: The Foreign Secretary, Mr S.M. Khan, has described as “not only baseless but mischievous” reports published by some newspapers that United States Government has approached Pakistan seeking permission to establish an American naval base at Chittagong.

He told the correspondent of a local English daily last night [Nov 28] that no such request has made by any foreign government and that the present regime in Pakistan has not allowed a foreign base in the country nor [will it] allow [one] in future.

The newspaper reports had stated that United States was seeking establishment of American naval base at Chittagong in return [for] the relief provided by the US Government to cyclone affected people of East Pakistan. — Agency
