KOHAT: The traders’ union of the Hangu Bazaar on Sunday held a protest demonstration against arrest of the furniture association’s president, and warned of a shutter down strike if he was not released within two days.

They accused a police inspector of arresting and manhandling the trader over personal grudge.

Speaking to the reporters on the occasion, union’s resident Zafar Iqbal said Inspector Zeeshan Bangash arrested Abdul Qayyum to settle personal scores with him by misusing his authority.

He lamented that despite urging the district police officer to take notice of the incident and order the victim’s release he was not set free. He said if the trader was not released immediately they would observe a shutter down on Monday and Tuesday.

WEAPONS SEIZED: The Orakzai police foiled a terrorism bid by seizing heavy weapons during a raid on a house in Talli area of Ali Khel tribe the other day.

District police officer Nisar Ahmed Khan displayed the weapons to the journalists at his office.

Briefing the mediapersons, he said acting on a tip-off DSP Akbar Naswar Ali raided a house in Talli area, and during search, found seven hand grenades, a missile, five rocket launcher shells, three detonators, six light machine gun refills and 760 cartridges of different bores hidden in one of the mud rooms.

House owner, Gul Saidan, was arrested and shifted to the police station. The DPO said the arms could have been used for terrorism purpose.

He asserted that no sinister elements would be allowed to disturb peace of the tribal district.

Vaqas Rafique has been given the charge of sub-divisional police officer of Saddar circle, replacing Haider Ali, who has been given the command of Lachi tehsil. SDPO Lachi Nazir Hussain has been transferred to the tribal subdivision of Darra Adamkhel.
