FROM the streets to the court room, Pakistan’s first transgender lawyer, Nisha Rao, is an inspiration to all. This lawyer has overcome many injustices to improve her lot in society and strive to make a better life for herself despite the stigma that our society heaped on her.

Nisha is a self-made trans-woman who paid her way through college by begging on the streets of Karachi. Being a transgender, she experienced brutality and injustice from all segments of society. She has proved that persistence in the pursuit of one’s goals pays off in the end.

I urge all compassionate people to acknowledge and applaud Nisha Rao for her achievement.
