RAWALPINDI: Light rain lashed the twin cities while Murree received the first winter snowfall on Monday.

Rain showers continued throughout the day creating muddy puddles on roads and throwing normal life out of gear for residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to an official from the Meteorological Department more rain is expected tomorrow (Tuesday) which will bring the temperature down to 4°C.

He said rain combined with snowfall over hills, is expected in the Potohar region, upper and central Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit- Baltistan and Kashmir.

A chilly wave will grip the twin cities in the coming few days as high ground moisture and low temperature will generate dense fog in plain areas, he added.

Meanwhile, the severity of cold in Murree has increased drastically as it’s residents experienced the first winter snowfall. Snowfall in the adjoining Galiyat already began two days ago and will continue for the next two days.

As soon as snowfall was reported, tourists started heading towards Murree.

The tehsil administration, City Traffic Police (CTP) along with other departments have been taking necessary steps towards facilitating tourists and locals during the snowfall season including clearing snow from highways and sprinkling salt on roads to ensure that roads are not slippery.Lowest temperatures recorded on Monday are as follows: Leh -9°C, Gupis and Skardu -6°C, Astore and Bagrote -5°C, Malam Jabba -4°C and Kalat -3°C.
