THE ship-breaking industry in Gadani has been demanding the implementation of safety rules in their sector.

Since Gadani is located in Balochistan, it is the responsibility of the provincial government to depute labour inspectors to ensure that the owners of ship-breaking yards have equipped their establishments as per requirements prior to starting the ship-breaking process.

Furthermore, the workforce employed in ship-breaking should be adequately trained in fire-fighting so that they may handle flammable stuff trapped in the compartments of the vessels being scrapped.

The Balochistan government needs to ensure all this by deputing labour inspectors who may protect the ship-breaking industry which is a major source of revenue and employment in the province.
