MIRPURKHAS: Mirpurkhas SSP on Monday suspended station house officer of Digri police station, Aslam Jamali, over alleged rape victim’s allegations that the police officer was supporting her tormentor.

The rape victim accused SHO of being lenient to the main suspect, who was still at large. The suspect was a police guard of DSP Badin and was using his influence to elude arrest, said sources.

On Monday, police produced two suspects in the case in local court which remanded them in police custody for one day.

The suspect kidnapped the victim, an intermediate student, near her school in Digri town and kept her in captivity for five days during which he subjected her to rape, said the victim’s father. The girl’s medical report was yet to be released to confirm the charge.

The father had lodged the FIR against the three suspects. Human rights organisations and political parties announced support for the victim’s family while police said raids were being conducted to arrest the main suspect.
