Dangerous bridge

Published October 24, 2020

THE Nusrat Bhutto Bridge in Larkana has been dysfunctional for the last couple of months, increasing the traffic on roads and disrupting the smooth movement of vehicles. According to the local deputy commissioner, the bridge may collapse anytime if it was opened for traffic without repair.

The bridge was constructed two decades ago with a huge investment, and has been repaired twice in the past. The contract assignee and contract holder should be taken to task for its poor durability and structural failure.

The provincial leadership is urged to start an investigation into the bridge’s construction and locate the cause of its failure, and repair the bridge as soon as possible while maintaining sustainability and safety measures.

The city has long been neglected and treated like a stepchild by the Sindh government.

It displays a gloomy picture of negligence and ignorance. The provincial government should save the city from further destruction and make the future elections a blessing for the party.
