IN Kurram, one of the newly-merged districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hundreds of provincial and federal government employees are seen using green number plates on their vehicles.
A report published back in Dawn in January 2013 had quoted the then deputy attorney-general as having had said that green number plates can only be used by vehicles owned by and registered in the name of the government.
He had added that any other individual or organisation using green-coloured number plates was a cognisable offence.
The activity in Kurram is surely illegal. Besides, a number of personal staff of the employees of the district administration and police department are using revolving emergency lights. This, again, is a cognisable offence.
The government should warn all those found involved in such acts. In case the offenders fail to pay heed, serious measures should be taken to stop this practice.
