KOHAT: Deputy commissioner Abdur Rehman has sought the help of the Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry to provide job opportunities to the educated youth.

He made the call while addressing an open kutchery here on Tuesday. He said it was really painful that hundreds of educated youth had applied for two vacancies of peons, a gardener and a clerk, indicating rising unemployment.

He said the grim situation demanded engaging the qualified youth in business activities on a war footing.

He advised the youth to use education for producing value-added products instead of getting degrees for only government jobs. He said the government departments were unable to absorb such a huge number of educated youth.

Mr Rehman appealed to the youth not to run after government jobs. He said a single person by starting own business could employ three to four people and earn a livelihood with honour.

On the occasion, former KCCI president Rasheed Paracha said the government spent millions of dollars on import of beans and dry fruits which were produced in high quality in the Kohat region. He said the growers needed official help to increase their per acre yield to save precious foreign exchange. Similarly, he said with little investment the youths could be employed while setting up small industries in the region.
