MARDAN: Two persons were killed and as many injured when armed men opened fire during a volleyball match in Kumbat locality here on Monday.

SHO of Gari Kapoora police station Tajbar Shah said that preliminary investigations revealed that the victims, Bilal and Janab Ali, were watching the volleyball match when their rivals opened fire on them. Both of them died on the spot.

Two persons standing near the victims were injured critically.

SHO Tajbar Shah said that the cause of the firing incident was stated to be an old enmity between the slain persons and the alleged killers.

They said that the rivals were cousins and had a long-running enmity. The accused managed to flee the spot after the firing.

However, an FIR of the case was yet to be registered by the family members of the victims.

Police officials said they were ascertaining the identity of the accused.
