CHARSADDA: A cache of explosives was recovered from banks of the River Kabul in Camp Korona here on Tuesday.

Prang police officials said after getting information about presence of weapons on the riverbank, they cordoned off the area and called the bomb disposal unit.

They said weapons and explosives packed in cement bags were recovered, which included 17 mortar shells, 20 safety fuses and 200 cartridges of different bores. They said the weapons were rusted, adding the BDU personnel shifted them to a safe place, and defused them.

The police registered FIR against unknown miscreants and started further investigations.

It merits a mention here that on Sept 29, about 25 mortar shells were found in the same area. The villagers called a scrap dealer, who along with them tried to defuse the shells. However, some of the shells went off with a bang, killing five people, including the scrap dealer.
