SWABI: Three employees of the Gajju Khan Medical College, Swabi, have been suspended after the stock register keeping critical record regarding purchase of equipment and instruments went missing, sources in the college and Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, told Dawn on Tuesday.

“This is a big scandal in the history of the medical college,” said a teacher on condition of anonymity, adding there were people no one could touch them.

The sources said to recollect the information about the purchased equipment and instruments a letter had been written to all the heads of departments on Monday, asking them to provide complete information about all bio-medical instruments/furniture issued to their respective sections on a proforma up to Oct 9, mentioning the name of the equipment, quality, receiving date and existing position.

When contacted, a doctor told Dawn that earlier 30 newly-purchased laptops went missing from the college’s store. He said an inquiry was ordered, but it was not clear whether or not the laptops were recovered.

Another letter issued to storekeepers on Monday directed them to make a comprehensive list from the supply orders of all instruments purchased by the medical college and submit it to the vice-principal’s office.

When contacted, college’s principal Dr Fasseh-uz-Zaman said they had suspended three storekeepers, and an enquiry had been conducted, and the findings would be shared with media.

MINISTER VISITS SCHOOLS: Provincial education minister Shahram Khan Taraki visited public sector schools and directed strict observance of SOPs to prevent any resurgence of coronavirus.

M Tarakai also inspected the under-construction classrooms and directed the contractors to use standard material. He warned that substandard construction won’t be tolerated.
