LAHORE: The Punjab government has constituted special committees headed by provincial ministers to review performance of various provincial departments.

The special committees will review the policy, budget, targets, initiatives and performance related issues, besides strategies to improving the performance and service delivery of the departments.

A notification in this regard has been issued by the principal secretary to the chief minister.

The committee headed by the senior minister comprises secretaries of finance and planning & development (P&D) departments, additional/deputy secretary CM office concerned, head of the Special Monitoring Unit (SMU) and other members, will review and submit a report on the performance of five departments – transport, schools education, higher education, primary and secondary health and specialised healthcare and medical education.

Similarly, the committee headed by the law minister comprises additional chief secretary (Home), inspector general of police (IGP), secretaries of finance, P&D, law and prosecution departments, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Law & Order CM Office, head of SMU and others, will review the performance of seven departments – police, home, prisons, prosecution, law, social welfare and bait-ul-mal and cooperatives departments.

CM launches tourism app

The committee headed by the industries minister will conduct the performance audit of five departments – industries, commerce, investment and skill development, mines and minerals, besides labour and human resource departments. This committee will also review the performance of environmental protection and energy departments. ACS (services economy), secretaries of finance and P&D departments, additional/deputy secretary CM office, head of SMU will be the part of this committee.

A special committee headed by the finance minister will review the affairs of housing, urban development and public health engineering, Board of Revenue (BoR), excise & taxation, communication & works (C&W), tourism and archeology, as well as Punjab information technology departments. It will have secretaries of finance and P&D departments, additional/deputy secretary CM Office, head of SMU and others as its members.

A special committee headed by agriculture minister will review the performance of agriculture, livestock & dairy development, irrigation, forests and wildlife & fisheries departments. It will consist of ACS (agriculture), secretaries of finance and P&D departments, additional/deputy secretary CM office, head of SMU and other members.LAUNCH: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Sunday launched Tourism Punjab App and DTS system App on the World Tourism Day, offering complete information about 511 tourist spots across the province.

Through this mobile phone application, people will be able to get online information and services related to tourism, including routes to the tourist destinations. They will also be able to avail the facilities being offered by the Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) online. The TDCP hotels can also be booked online through the app that can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

The DTS system app has been introduced for the tour operators who can register themselves online now. The tour operators’ affairs have been automated. The government will also provide e-payment facility to the tourists visiting the province.

The government hopes promotion of tourism will generate new employment opportunities.

Later, a meeting was held under the chair of CM Buzdar to review the steps taken for the promotion of tourism. The meeting was briefed about the salient features of the Punjab Tourism App.
