FAISALABAD, Jan 19: The district government has planned to establish a university in Faisalabad.
This was stated by district Nazim Chaudhry Zahid Nazir while inaugurating the new building of the Government College D-Type Colony completed with an expenditure of Rs15.7 million.
He announced the provision of library books, a basket ball court and annexation of a piece of state land with the college. He also promised funds for a bus and an auditorium for the college in the next year’s district government budget.
On a demand of furniture, he said the EDO (Education) had already been directed to make arrangements for the provision of furniture in every college of the district. The government would provide additional funds, if necessary, for the purchase of furniture, he assured.
The district Nazim also opened the computer centre and a day-care centre for the pre-schoolgoing children of the college staff.
Earlier, local union council Nazim Naeem Dastagir thanked the district Nazim for providing funds for the construction of Korian Road and Mian Road of D-Type Colony which links the college with the Sammundri Road.
College Principal Dr Saeeda Banoo, union council Nazims Rana Atif Adeel, Rana Naeem Dastagir, EDO (Education) Muhammad Akhtar Cheema, parents and students were also present on the occasion.
POLIO WALK: A walk to create awareness among people about the polio was arranged here on Saturday by the Health department.
Led by DCO Tahir Hussain, the walk started from the District Health Office and culminated at the same place after passing through Zila Council Chowk, Kutchery Bazaar and Clock Tower.
Scores of people, including doctors, social workers and union council Nazims, participated in the walk.
Speaking on the occasion, EDO (Health) Capt Dr Mukhtar Ali (retired) said a three-day polio campaign would be initiated in Faisalabad from Jan 22.
At least 2,359 teams would visit door-to-door in all urban and rural areas of the district for administering polio drops to about one million children under five years of age, he added.
