THE recent stunt of a TikTok video maker where a wife faked the death of her husband in order to gain followers depicts the irresponsible and non-serious attitude of digital content creators.
As Pakistan is moving towards digitalisation, it is time digital technology laws were introduced and enforced in letter and in spirit. There is a dire need for lawmakers to look into this area for framing citizen-friendly laws.
Policies must be framed to ensure that digital content producers are refrained from being involved in fraudulent acts and spread of fake news and stunts that may have a harmful impact on societal norms.
Digital legislation should be the top most priority of our lawmakers if the dream of a digital Pakistan is to be materialised.
