Shaheed Benazir XI win girls basketball match

KARACHI: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto XI edged past Abida Toosi Shaheed XI 38-36 in a thrilling girls basketball exhibition match which was held a part of Defence Day celebrations at the Arambagh-Abdul Nasir courts on Friday.

A large number of women fans watched the match in which Cameron Turner with 12 points was the leading scorer for the winners, She was ably assisted by Rusia Tanveer and Huma Ali who both scored 10 points each.

For the losing side, the main scorers were Sumbul with 14 points besides Sidra and Isabelle who scored 10 points each.

Sindh Olympic Asso­ciation’s vice president and member environment commission Tehmina Asif was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed th prizes.

In her speech, she appreciated the efforts of Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) for organising regular events and improving infrastructure. She praised the martyrs of the country who laid down their lives on Sept 6 and added that Pakistani women are second to none in talent and skills and have the ability to excel if provided top facilities and good opportunities.

KBBA senior officials Zaeema Khatoon and Humera Siddiqui were also present on the occasion.
