RAHIM YAR KHAN: An Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) director alleges that 11 illegal selections were made in the Department of Management Sciences (DMS) of three IUB campuses.

IUB Director of Rahim Yar Khan campus Dr Syed Muhammad Shakir Ali Ghazali has raised allegations in a letter to the registrar, the Punjab audit department, treasurer, resident auditor of the IUB and all in charges of departments of IUB on Sept 15.

The letter says that with respect to the advertisement No IPB-327, four selections were made in the DMS, Rahim Yar Khan Campus, against two advertised seats, 14 in Bahawalpur campus against six advertised seats and eight selections were made in Bahawalnagar campus against five advertised seats.

The letter demanded the registrar office produce the clause of IUB Act/Statutes which allows the Selection Board or Syndicate to increase the number of seats at the time of interview and make excess selections.

Calling such selections illegal, the director said any salary paid in this respect would be recoverable from those responsible for these illegal acts.

The letter demanded reply in three days or the case will be referred to the Chancellor.

A spokesperson for the IUB said all appointments have been made after public advertisement in national level newspapers and inviting applications. Applications have been scrutinised as per prescribed qualifications and experience criteria and eligible candidates have been interviewed by the Selection Board.

The board recommended suitable candidates to the Syndicate which approved the appointments. The Syndicate is the executive body of the university and has the power to create or abolish posts as needed.

Furthermore, the IUB is a growing university competing for rankings at national and international levels. The university has to increase the number of faculty positions from time to time as necessary to maintain a good student to teacher ratio in order to meet the quality and standards of higher education.
