LAHORE: Pakistan Railways’ newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nisar Memon says safety of passengers and operations staff and rehab of vulnerable track, rolling stock and other infrastructure will be his top priority.
Mr Memon, who assumed charge of his office in the afternoon after attending a high-level meeting in Islamabad, was of the view that increasing department’s revenue, reducing expenditure and building capacity of our officials and staff would be given preference.
Earlier on Friday, the federal government issued a notification regarding appointment of Mr Memon as PR’s CEO/Senior General Manager. The notification was issued in the wake of a summary approved by the Prime Minister Imran Khan in late hours on Thursday.
Mr Memon is an officer of PR’s Civil Engineering department and has more than 30 years working experience, including about last 7/8 years in top management positions.
The Ministry of Railways, through the Establishment Division, had moved a summary to the prime minister last month for the appointment of a new CEO keeping in view the retirement of Mr Dost Ali Leghari on Sept 5.
Meanwhile, the ministry on Friday entrusted Mr Muhammad Farooq Iqbal Malik, a BS-19 officer of the Civil Superior Service’s Pakistan Railways Group (29th common), presently posted as Chief Commercial Manager, with the additional charge of Director (IT) at the PR’s headquarters.
