LARKANA, Sept 21: The Sindh High Court circuit bench Larkana on Wednesday gave Mehak, formerly a Hindu girl who recently embraces Islam, in the protective custody of police and issued notice to her father Seth Gianchand to appear before the court on Sept 23.
She had embraced Islam and married to one Shamsuddain Dasti.
During hearing of her constitutional petition, the SHO Jacobabad city and the investigation officer assured that they would not harass the couple and its relatives.
In her petition, she alleged that police had picked Mevo Khan Dasti, Ghulam Haider Gopang and Suhail after registering a fake FIR against them. She alleged that police were harassing them.
On Wednesday, she appeared with her husband in the court and sought protection as “she was receiving threats to her life”.
The petition would come up for hearing before the division bench on Sept 22, according to a lawyer Muhammad Ismail Bhutto.
He said the division bench would take up the issue of the quashment of FIR.
The two police officers assured the court that they would release the arrested persons.
Lata, the mother of Mehak, hugged her daughter in the court and asked to accompany her. However, Mehak turned down her mother’s request.
