MARDAN: A command and control centre was inaugurated in the Mardan police lines here on Tuesday under the safe city project.

Deputy commissioner Mohammad Abid Khan Wazir and district police officer Dr Zahidullah Khan inaugurated the project during a ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by relevant officials of the district administration, the police department and other prominent figures of the city.

Executive engineer, highway division Mardan, Abdul Wadood briefed the participants about the safe city project. He said that still-cameras and nine PTZ cameras would be installed at 16 main squares of the district, which had been further divided into three routes.

Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, deputy commissioner Mohammad Abid Khan Wazir said that the project would cost Rs16 million.

He revealed that it was started as a pilot project in urban areas of the city which would be completed within next two months.

The deputy commissioner said that the district administration would try its best to make the scheme as a model project.

He said that the provincial government would be requested to extend the project to other areas of the district in phase-II.

Speaking on the occasion, district police officer Dr Zahidullah Khan said that the safe city project would help them in keeping a vigilant eye on criminals and anti-social elements.

Under the safe city project, he said that the police would be able to have effective monitoring of the exit and entry routes of the city to help stop crimes in the surrounding areas.

He disclosed that the cameras installed at the police stations, offices of the police officers and the police headquarters would also be linked with the command and control centre.
