RAWALPINDI: A peace convoy of religious scholars belonging to all schools of thought led by City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Mohammad Ahsan Younis and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ali Akbar reached Murree as a part of the police efforts to promote peace and harmony during Muharram.

The peace convoy comprised Maulana Ashraf Ali, Maulana Mazhar, Qari Abdul Rashid, Maulana Ghafoor Tawhidi, Hafiz Mohammad Iqbal Rizvi, Shaukat Jafari, Syed Zahir Shah, Syed Javed Ali Shah, Agha Nayyar Abbas Jafari and Qari Zahoorul Haq Kazmi.

Later, the ulema and police officials held a meeting to ensure peace during Muharram.

Qari Saifur Rehman Saifi said all ulema had come together and will achieve the goal of peace in Muharram.

Hafiz Mohammad Iqbal Rizvi said the new tradition initiated by the CPO for peace and unity will have lasting results.

“We all have built Pakistan and we are here together for the stability and peace in the country,” said Hafiz Mohammad Iqbal Rizvi.

Maulana Ashraf Ali said: “We will establish peace in Muharram with all our efforts and cooperation. I thank the CPO for his efforts to maintain peace.”

He said they have gathered to give a message of love and brotherhood. Religious scholars can establish peace and such a gathering is a welcome step.

Religious and sectarian hatred will be discouraged in all forums, especially on social media, said a joint statement of the religious scholars.

“We are fortunate that eminent scholars and leaders of all schools of thought have come together for peace,” said the CPO.

At the end of the meeting, the caravan of religious scholars and police organised a peace walk on Murree Mall Road and prayed for national security and peace and order at GPO Chowk,” said a police spokesman.
