LAKKI MARWAT: Three people were booked for beating up a woman near her house in Kattakkhel village here, said police on Monday.

They said Shabir Ahmad, Manzoor Ahmad and Azizullah beat up the married woman in the fields near her house, and also took away her earrings.

The woman’s husband told the police that his wife was working in the fields when three persons came there and started beating her up. He said afterwards the accused snatched earrings from her and escaped.

The police said they had registered a case against the attackers and intensified efforts to arrest them.

Meanwhile, the police on Monday claimed to have arrested 67 people, including proclaimed offenders and drug traffickers, during a daylong search and strike operation in parts of the district.

The operation was simultaneously launched in the limits of all the police stations to maintain peace during Muharram, said an official.

The police captured 10 proclaimed offenders, six drug peddlers and 51 suspects during raids, and seized three assault rifles, two shotguns, 16 pistols, 307 bullets, 5,137 gram hashish and a small quantity of heroin from them, he claimed.

The official said over a dozen motorcyclists were also arrested for over-speeding on the busy Indus highway.
