Three killed in Orakzai mine blast

ORAKZAI: Three miners hailing from Shangla district were killed and at least 10 others injured when an explosion occurred due to gas accumulation in a coalmine in Boya area of Orakzai district on Saturday.

District police officer Nisar Ahmad Khan said the miners were busy in work when the blast occurred there. He added teams of Orakzai scouts, rescue and police reached the spot soon after the explosion and started search and rescue operation.

Orakzai Scouts Commandant Zakir Khan and DPO Nisar Ahmad Khan supervised the rescue operation.

The rescue workers retrieved one body and rescued 12 miners from the rubble and shifted them to hospital, where two injured, Haji Mohammad and his brother, Ibrar Khan succumbed to injuries.

Some of the injured also hailed from Lower Dir.
