OKARA: A robbery accused, who was in custody of Gogera police on remand, was killed in an encounter along Akbar Road near Chak 43-GD check post on Saturday.

The Gogera police claimed accused Azhar Bashir had escaped from lock-up three days back and he was killed by his own accomplices during the encounter.

Azhar had escaped by breaking the lock-up on Aug 19. Eight police officials were booked over his escape and were suspended from service.

They included Station House Officer Mushtaq Ahmad. Eight of the booked police officials, four had got bail from the court while as many were still at large.

The first information report (FIR) of the encounter, registered on the complaint of SI Muhammad Sarwar, said a patrol team went to raid the proclaimed offenders who were robbing citizens near Chak 42/GD on Akbar-Okara road. They found the road blocked by a tree.
