FAISALABAD: About 14 personnel of Sukkur police, including a DSP and three women, were booked on charges of ‘kidnapping’ a lawyer.

The members of district bar observed a full day strike on Saturday against the kidnapping of their fellow Mian Ijaz of Madina Town.

Lawyers said Ijaz had allegedly been kidnapped from his residence in Madina Town on Aug 17 and police didn’t register the case for two days. They said a Sukkur police team, led by DSP Masood Mar, barged into his house without seeking the permission of Faisalabad police which was mandatory, dragged Ijaz out of his house, bundled him into a vehicle and took him away.

They said owing to alleged indifferent attitude of the Faisalabad police, cops from other province managed to take away a lawyer.

A case has been registered on the complaint of Aqsa Rashid, wife of lawyer Ijaz.

In her application, she said her husband had a property dispute with his mother and two sisters residing in Sukkur. She said the mother and sisters of Ijaz had also got registered two cases against him with Rohri police, Sukkur, and Ijaz had filed an harassment petition against the women as well.

She said her husband’s mother and sisters along with Sukkur police knocked at her door on the night of Aug 17. Ijaz went out and the suspects bundled him into a car and sped away. She said Rescue 15 was called immediately, but no one came to the spot.

“We had also visited the Madina Town police station for action but to no avail,” the FIR reads.

A police officer said a case had been registered against the raiding party and the matter would be taken up with the Sukkur police.
