BAHAWALPUR: South Punjab Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Inam Ghani inaugurated his camp office on the DPO office premises on Friday.

Talking to the media, AIGP Inam Ghani said he would address the complaints of the local people in his camp office for two days a week (Fridays and Saturdays) where everybody would have access and permission to register his/her genuine complaint.

CRACKDOWN: A crackdown on illegal housing societies may be launched with immediate effect.

Commissioner Asif Iqbal Chaudhry stated this during a meeting of the assistant commissioners (ACs) of all the tehsils of three districts of Bahawalpur.

According to a handout, the commissioner said the approval of site plans of houses, commercial and industrial establishments, transfer of land deeds and housing schemes should be made in accordance with law and the persons involved in illegal matters and the cases of unregistered housing colonies and illegal land possession should be taken with an iron hand.

The meeting was informed that during the current month, the site plans of 403 residential buildings, 201 commercial buildings and four housing societies were approved by the authorities.

In a separate meeting to review the locust situation in the division, the commissioner said the plant protection department had completed a recent survey of 721,000 acres of land in Cholistan and on 591,000 acres of land, no locust breeding was detected. He said over 20,000 acres of land in Cholistan in Rahim Yar Khan district was sprayed with insecticides to eliminate locust.

DOCTORS: The Bahawalpur chapter of the Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) has rejected the Punjab health department’s list of awards for the frontline medics fighting against the Covod-19 pandemic during the previous months.

Earlier, the PMA office-bearers had turned down the government’s announced award list.

The YDA said, in a press release, the favourites were only being patronised. They maintained that about 100 medics and paramedics of the local families were affected with the virus but they had been ignored in the awards. They demanded the government review the list and accommodate the locals, who had rendered valuable services in controlling the pandemic.
