There was no edition of the newspaper on Aug 15, 1970 on account of Independence Day the day before. The following excerpt is from the previous day’s edition.

TEL AVIV: The five-day old Middle East cease-fire last night [Aug 12] ran into what could prove its first crisis with the latest Israeli outcry … that the Soviet Union and the UAR had violated it by moving missile batteries closer to the Suez Canal front.

In occupied Jerusalem, the Israeli Cabinet held a special meeting today at which it was expected to suspend the start of talks till the alleged missiles are withdrawn. War Minister Moshe Dayan told Parliament … that the charge has been conveyed to the US. Earlier, Prime Minister Golda Meir had reiterated … Israel’s insistence on obtaining “agreed and secure borders” in any withdrawal from occupied Arab territory.

Yesterday was also marked by the highest casualty toll inflicted by Arab guerillas since the start of the cease-fire — five Israeli civilians killed and 22 others injured. According to Cairo reports King Hussein of Jordan, due in UAR on Aug 20, will discuss with President Nasser the latest developments. Al-Fatah leader Yasser Arafat is also coming with a guerilla delegation soon for talks with President Nasser.
