Ireland's public health advisory team has recommended the first localised reimposition of coronavirus restrictions to control outbreaks in three of the country's 26 counties, the Irish Times reported on Friday.

Ireland, which for several weeks had one of the lowest infection rates in Europe, has seen a spike over the last week.

Health officials said they would issue new guidance for the adjoining counties of Kildare, Laois and Offaly on Friday.
