KOHAT: Federal state minister for Kashmir affairs Sheharyar Afridi has sanctioned over Rs140 million development schemes for KP-81 and KP-82 constituencies here.

A statement issued on Wednesday said Rs10 million had been allocated for purchase of power transformers and poles and Rs5 million for providing sewing machines to the poor women.

In KP-81 constituency, Rs10 million would be spent on construction of sports grounds. An amount of Rs4 million each has been set aside for Shakardarra Urban-1 and Urban-2 union councils.

In KP-82, Rs40 million has been set aside for construction of concrete roads in Urban 1 to Urban 5, Sher Kot, Alizai, Muhammadzai, Nasrat Khel and Ustarzrai union councils. Projects worth Rs5 million would be carried out in the areas along the Rawalpindi Road and in KDA Township. A sum of Rs5 million would be spent on renovation of the district council, and Rs2 million would be used for construction of a funeral place in Ustarzai.

A sum of Rs20 million would be spent on construction of drains from Urban-1 to Urban-5 union councils.

The work on all these schemes is expected to be launched in next two to three months.

MARTYRS’ DAY: The district police officer has given approval to finalising programmes for observing August 4 as the Martyrs’ Day. DPO Javed Iqbal issued the directives while chairing a meeting on Wednesday.

It was also decided that the policemen would donate blood on the occasion and visit the homes of the martyrs, and distribute gifts and cash among the family members.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: The district polio eradication committee decided on Wednesday that an anti-polio campaign starting from August 17 would be carried out under strict SOPs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting chaired by additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed was attended by officials of police, health, and other departments.

The participants noted that the four-day campaign was being carried after a long interval and directed the vaccinators to achieve 100 per cent results. It was decided that the vaccinators would be provided with masks, gloves and hand sanitisers.

MEDICINE SHOPS SEALED: Owners of three medicines shops were booked and the outlets sealed for not having licences and observing the SOPs in Shakadarra Bazaar on Wednesday.

Expired and non-registered medicines were also recovered and cases were filed against the owners. A statement said senior drug inspector Tauseef Mohammad and drug inspector Mohammad Irfan Wazir raided the stores.
