KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has set aside a death sentence awarded to two convicts by a trial court in a murder case.
An antiterrorism court had sentenced Mohammad Amir Khan, alias Totla, and Masood Ahmed Ansari to death in January last year for killing Rizwan Butt of their rival political group in Shah Faisal Colony in 2010.
The convicts through their counsel had challenged the capital punishment before the SHC and after hearing both sides and examining the record and proceedings of the case, a two-judge bench of the SHC headed by Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro allowed the appeals and set aside the verdict of the trial court.
According to the prosecution, the accused, said to be workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, had killed Rizwan, an activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in December 2010.
