PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Ajmal Wazir said on Friday that a specialised hospital for Covid-19 patients had been established in Nishtarabad area of Peshawar, where all facilities, including testing services, would be provided to the general public.

Addressing a press conference here, he said initially the hospital would have capacity of 58 beds, including 17 high dependency units (HDU) and five ICU beds with each having oxygen facility. He added in the second phase the number of beds would be enhanced to 110.

Mr Wazir said a total of 105 specialised staff, including pulmonologists, pathologists, psychologists and medical specialists would be posted to the hospital.

He said the modern hospital would be inaugurated by the chief minster soon, adding the hospital would also have Covid-19 testing laboratory and would be provided 15,000 testing kits.

He said the government had enhanced the overall capacity of hospitals, adding a total of 5,500 beds had been reserved for Covid-19 patients, of which, 1,375 were equipped with oxygen facility.

He said the number of HDU and ICU beds would be increased by the end of the current month.
