ISLAMABAD: Constitution Avenue will remain closed for traffic from Saturday till Sunday evening because of work on the installation of a pedestrian bridge at the site.

“Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to install a pedestrian bridge during the weekend so that routine business of the offices located on Constitution Avenue do not suffer. With the consultation of Islamabad Traffic Police, it has been decided that bridge erection work will be started from Saturday evening. For this purpose, Constitution Avenue will remain closed for traffic from 6pm Jun 27, 2020 till 6pm Jun 28, 2020,” read CDA’s statement, adding that construction work on the bridge will end in July.

CDA spokesperson Mazhar Hussain said: “Construction work on the site is in full swing. After completing foundation casting, erection work on the bridge is in progress. Pre-fabricated steel bridge has been transported to the site along with the machinery. The pedestrian bridge is being constructed over Constitution Avenue in front of Pak Secretariat. The cost of the project is Rs39 million; keeping in view the utility of the project, CDA started work on it during the smart lockdown period. Effective vigilance was ensured and now work on the project is about to complete.”

He said that thebridge will create ease for motorists and pedestrians as it will improve traffic flow and minimise risk of accidents.
