HARIPUR: A Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader along with two accomplices was arrested on Wednesday on charges of involvement in human smuggling.

Federal Investigation Agency’s Hazara zone Sub-Inspector Khalid Khan said Nusrat Bibi and Sahibzada Badar Ali, residents of Mankraey village, had moved a complaint against Syed Hamid Shah, senior provincial vice-president PML-Q, accusing him of fraudulently getting money from them in the name of getting their United Kingdom’s visas stamped.

According to FIA officials, after initial background investigation, the accused was found guilty and an FIA team arrested him from his Haripur residence. His two other accomplices namely Ehtesham and Ehsan were also arrested.

The accused were produced before the court of senior civil judge, who ordered their two-day physical remand, the official said.

Meanwhile, Hamid Shah’s family confirmed his arrest, but rejected the allegation of the two complainants.

They termed the arrest as part of a vilification campaign unleashed against Mr Shah by his political rivals.
