KARACHI, Jan 18: In yet another petition challenging the credibility of IBA tests for admission to medical colleges, the director of IBA was told on Friday by the Sindh High Court to appear on Jan 23 with all the relevant record of the entrance test.

A division bench, comprising Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Zia Pervez, passed the order when the petition filed by Faiza Qadeer Shaikh of Larkana came up.

Mohammed Nawaz Shaikh, the counsel for the petitioner, submitted before the court that his client was seeking admission to Chandka Medical College, Larkana, and had appeared in entrance test conducted by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, on behalf of the government medical colleges in Sindh.

He maintained that she gave correct answers of a number of objective questions. She was, however, declared to have secured 113 marks whereas she secured 248 marks according to master key prepared by the examiners.

The perusal of both the above answer sheets showed that great injustice had been done to the petitioner as 25 answers, which she had given correctly, were marked to be incorrect/wrong by the IBA.

The counsel maintained that results were manipulated and gross mistakes committed in the entrance test depriving genuine candidates of their chance.

The counsel also submitted both the answer sheets by the examiner and master key.

After coming to know of such serious discrepancies and fraud committed with the petitioner, she filed a detailed application with the director of IBA (respondent No 4) copies of which were also endorsed to the governor of Sindh and the health secretary, etc., requesting them to correct their record and issue necessary certificate to rectify the record, but no action was taken by the respondent.

The petitioner feared that the respondent No 4 was not prepared to accept the responsibility of such frauds and trying to adopt delaying tactics at the cost of the petitioner whose entire career was at stake due to malpractice, manipulation, etc.

She, therefore, prayed for directing the principal of Chandka Medical College (respondent No 3) to issue corrected result sheet in accordance with the master key sheet and allow the petitioner to be admitted to first-year professional MBBS according to her corrected merit.

She also prayed that the respondent No 3 should be directed to allow her to be admitted fo first-year MBBS either at Chandka Medical College or in any other medical college in the circumstances of the case.

She also prayed for strict action against those involved in this fraud. After hearing the counsel for the petitioner, the court issued notices to the respondents, including the director of the IBA.
