KARACHI, Sept 9: Weather turned pleasant with the afternoon showers in the city on Friday. The city experienced hot weather over the last couple of days. After rain, the mercury dropped to 28.8 degrees from 39.6 degrees Centigrade.

The spokesman for Karachi Meteorological Department said that the University Road observatory recorded over 5.6 millimetres rain while in North Karachi around 5mm rain was recorded. He said only 2mm rain was recorded at airport while scattered drizzle was experienced in Sohrab Goth, North Karachi, Malir, Orangi Town and other areas.

The official said that rain was caused due to restoration of monsoon system entering into the region. He said that the monsoon rains remained largely below average in the month of August. However, he added, the prevailing wet-spell was likely to continue for another seven to eight days.

According to the meteorological department, low pressure over northeast Arabian Sea has moved northwest wards and now lies about a few hundred kilometres southeast of Karachi.

Following the Friday rain, a large number of people thronged recreational places including Sea View and Clifton beaches.

More light and moderate rains have been forecast in different areas of Karachi on Saturday. The maximum temperature in the city would range between 35 and 37 degree Centigrade, added the forecast.

The highest temperature of 44.5°C was recorded at Dalbandin and the lowest temperature of 16.5°C at Kalat on Friday. — PPI/APP
