KARACHI, Sept 9: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad visited last night the Clifton beach where 400 labourers are working round-the-clock at a gigantic project aimed at restoring the past glories of the beach.

He stayed there for an hour and went around afoot to see the ongoing work at the project covering four-kilometre beach.

The governor was accompanied by Principal Secretary Salim Khan, DCO Fazlur Rehman and others. EDO Parks Liaquat Ali briefed them on the progress of the project.

The recreational project includes rehabilitation and renovation of Jehangir Kothari Parade, development of Bagh-i-Ibne Qasim spread over 80 acres and also development of coastal strip 4km in length. The project would be completed with a cost of Rs500 million in three phases.

The governor was told that Jehangir Kothari Parade was being rehabilitated as per its original and historical existence linked with Clifton beach through a beautiful corridor. Under the project, it would be connected again with the beach by an overhead pedestrian bridge. The project also included recreational points for children, picnic points, jogging tracks and other facilities.

He was informed that illegal occupation at 4km strip from Casino to Shireen Jinnah Colony had been ended with the removal of encroachments.
