ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned the murder of senior journalist Zulfiqar Ali Mandrani in Jacobabad.

Mr Mandrani was shot dead in the name of honour on Tuesday.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, PFUJ president Shahzada Zulfiqar and secretary general Nasir Zaidi urged the Sindh government and police to take notice of the incident and ensure foolproof security to media people.

They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.

“The murder must be independently investigated by police and the Sindh government must ensure an independent probe into the incident to ensure justice for the family of Zulfiqar Ali Mandrani,” the PFUJ statement said.

Mr Mandrani was a senior reporter associated with Sindhi newspaper Daily Koshish. He is the second media person to have been killed in recent months in Sindh.

Earlier in February, another journalist associated with Sindhi TV channel KTN News, Aziz Memon, was also found dead in an irrigation canal in Naushahro Feroz.

As per the 2020 World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Pakistan stands at 145th place of 180 countries in the world ranking.
