I BEING a healthcare provider was deputed at the Karachi railway cantonment station. I performed infrared scanning of thousands of passengers during my shift.

Of them, 70 per cent had personal protective equipment, 20pc of the passengers wore masks but only till their chins, while they had gloves in their pockets. This they were doing only to meet the requirements of entry into a train ignoring the deadly virus.

People most vulnerable, mainly septuagenarians, were in a hurry to get access to the train without personal protective equipment. Some 7pc seemed they did not believe we really have a crisis, while 3pc of them claimed to be railway employees who were argumentative and were involved in aggressive behaviour when they were asked to take preventive measures.

This all shows the public at large is least bothered about coronavirus and is not serious in taking precautionary manners.
