LAHORE: Noted child specialist Dr Mohammad Anwar passed away here on Wednesday morning. He was 93.

He had been unwell for the past one year or so and had not been visiting his clinic for quite some time, said his assistant.

“He will be deeply mourned by his wife, his children and grandchildren, his relatives and the countless people whose lives he touched,” reads a message shared by members of his family.

His funeral will be held at 9:30am on Thursday (today) at his 56-G, Gulberg, residence.

At a time when there were not many child specialists around, Dr Anwar became a household name and he administered treatment to children of more than a generation -- especially to those hailing from Lahore and thereabouts.

He was known to have a healing touch countless mothers can vouchsafe for and his opinion was highly rated in medical circles. He it was who imparted knowledge and skills to a number of child specialists of today.

The children ward at the Fatima Memorial Hospital has been named after him in recognition of his services.

Unlike other health practitioners, he was steeped in western tradition and meticulously maintained a record of every child that visited his clinic.

He frequently visited the US to keep himself abreast with the latest trends in child healthcare. The clinical precision with which he would diagnose an ailment and prescribe a course of medicines earned him the status of a celebrity.
