SUKKUR: Many areas around Khanpur Mahar town in Ghotki district came under locusts’ attack on Saturday.

Reports from the district suggested that huge swarms of locusts landed on vast farmlands and devoured standing crops in Shahpur Mahar, Lohi, Sardar Garh, Piyaro Lashari, Loond Bazaar as well as hundreds of acres of other lands surrounding the small towns.

Affected growers said they lost their sugar cane and vegetable crops besides green trees and plants to the pest attack.

They complained that the provincial government or the district administration did not take any measures to contain the swarms while they were ravaging green fields in the neighbouring districts for more than a week.

They appealed to the federal and provincial authorities concerned to take immediate measures to save the remaining areas from locust attacks.
