KARACHI: Object of the month

Published September 4, 2005

KARACHI: The Indus seal is one of the typical artefacts of Indus civilization. It had been used for a long time during the Indus period. Besides, some Indus seals have been found even in Mesopotamia. The roots of Indus style seals may be in Central Asia, which later and spread over the western area of Balochistan, and further east over the Indus.

Seals for stamping personal and official insignia on goods or documents are employed throughout the world. In modern Japan, personal seals are used to sign letters and commercial transactions. The seals of Indus cities were used in the same manner.
