ISLAMABAD, Sept 3: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Saturday that export processing zones (EPZs) should aggressively market the authority for attracting foreign investment in the country. He made the direction at a presentation made to him on the EPZA at the Prime Minister Secretariat.

An official announcement said that Mr Aziz asked the authority for attracting foreign investment by highlighting the comprehensive advantage of making investment in Pakistan and the low cost of doing business here.

The premier said that the EPZA should try to bring in global investors who could open assembly lines, manufacturing facilities and leverage the facilities available at EPZA to enhance economic activity and create job opportunities.

He said that the EPZA major thrust should be on attracting investments for opening software houses, information technology, business processing, call centres and technology based industries.

The prime minister also directed the authorities of EPZ to engage overseas chambers of commerce to attract foreign investment. Earlier, the Chairperson EPZA Mrs Rukhsana Saleem briefed the prime minister on objectives, history, functions and future plans of the authority.
