FAISALABAD: A biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory has been established at the Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) to conduct tests for coronavirus.

FMU Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, along with Allied Hospital Medical Superintendent Khurram Altaf and others, inaugurated the facility on Friday.

The VC said coronavirus tests would be conducted daily at this lab along with tests for other ailments, and the government had established eight such labs across the province. He said this BSL-3 lab was different from other labs and would start collecting samples from the Faisalabad division. The entire staff of the lab had been provided with safety gear, he added.

The FMU is also conducting research on plasma, he said, urging people to take precautionary measures to avoid contracting coronavirus.
