ISLAMABAD: Veteran journalist Shahidur Rehman passed away on Wednesday due to cardiac arrest. He was 74.

His funeral will take place at H-11 graveyard today (Thursday) at 11am.

In a condolence message, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) paid tributes to the senior journalist.

PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi said his death was a great loss to the journalist community as he actively participated in all media forums.

Mr Shahidur Rehman was an author of the book Who Owns Pakistan in which he exposed the ruling elite of Pakistan.

The PFUJ said that his work and book would keep his vision alive and would remain a guiding force for media community.

Senior journalist M Ziauddin paid tributes to Shahidur Rehman on his Facebook page saying that the veteran journalist was one of Pakistan’s top economic journalists, and one of his closest friends.

“Please pray for him. Rest in peace Shahid. Ameen,” Mr Ziauddin wrote.

Starting his career from PPI news agency he remained affiliated with Morning News, covering economics and finance. Currently, he was Pakistan’s bureau chief of Japanese news agency Kyodo.

He is survived by his widow, two sons and three daughters.
